Laryngeal endoscopy involves the careful evaluation of both the anatomic and physiologic aspects of the nasopharynx/velum, pharynx, base of the tongue, and larynx. Specifically, the vocal folds should be visualized and examined in great detail using high magnification, video recording, and stroboscopy techniques. the laryngoscope is placed into the nasal cavity, through the naso and oropharynx, and positioned cephalad to the larynx for a full laryngeal assessment. laryngoscopy can be challenging for both the examiner and the patient, has limited magnification, and may require topical anesthesia.
